Arthroscopic procedures can help our team diagnose and treat conditions related to the:

  • Elbow
  • Hip
  • Shoulder
  • Wrist
  • Knee

Arthroscopic diagnostic examinations are usually recommended when the patient does not respond to nonsurgical treatments, such as rest, medications or physical therapy. Once your surgeon has eyes on the joint through an arthroscopy, they are able to provide a precise diagnosis and begin a suitable treatment plan.

Benefits of Arthroscopic Surgery

If the patient has only experienced partial pain relief from nonsurgical methods, then a minimally invasive arthroscopy allows the surgeon to help restore normal function without cutting through muscles and other tissues.

Because it is minimally invasive, the recovery time following an arthroscopy is far less than that of traditional surgery. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that patients can go home the same day of surgery and can usually resume daily activities a few short weeks following the procedure.

Additional benefits include:

  • Less muscle and tissue damage
  • Fewer stitches
  • Less pain after surgery
  • Reduced risk of infection

What Can an Arthroscopy Diagnose and Treat?

Arthroscopies are great clinical tools that can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • ACL tears
  • Meniscus tears
  • Bicep tears
  • Tennis elbow
  • And much more

What to Expect During an Arthroscopy

Your orthopedic care team will administer a form of anesthesia to prevent you from feeling any pain during the surgery. Once the area is numbed, your surgeon will make a small incision through which they will insert the arthroscope and other related instruments.

After the procedure is completed, all tools are removed, and your surgeon will close the incision. They will discuss any postoperative care instructions with you to ensure proper healing.

The entire surgical process usually takes about one hour to complete, depending on the severity of your condition and location of the pain.

  • Elbow arthroscopy
  • Hip arthroscopy
  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Wrist arthroscopy
  • Knee arthroscopy
